guilty pleasures

During the leisure time I do have, "Nurse Jackie" is one of the few shows I like to keep up with. Out of all the nursing shows that have popped up within the last yr, this is probably the only one that didn't get canceled. Sorry HawthoRNe and Mercy Hospital you didnt quite make the cut. And no, this show isn't only interesting if you are a nurse or in the health care field, it's actually very witty and entertaining. 

Nurse Jackie, played by Edie Falco our main character serves as both the protagonist and antagonist to herself. She's pretty much a bad ass, prescription drug addicted, cheating on her husband with the pharmacist kind of nurse. Yet she still maintains the do good for others attitude that is expected of her. Yea, that was probably a handful of things in a sentence but that's exactly what this show is, very unpredictable at the least. Although the portrayal of nurses in my opinion is far from realistic, I give it an A for its entertainment factor. Interestingly enough it does show that prescription drug addiction is a huge issue for nurses due to the numerous amount who injure themselves in the workplace. Another thing I've noticed is the interaction between Nurse Jackie and the Doctors, which comes very close to normal. Nurses have always been down played as working for/under a doctor but in reality its a partnership between the two. Jackie straight up gives orders to her Drs, which in some cases does actually happen! So if you'd like to take a glimpse into what my work life consists of, try watching Nurse Jackie, she's kinda my idol!

"Secret Diary of a Call Girl" is a British television show based on a set books written by an author under the pseudonym of "Belle du Jour." The show stars Hannah Baxter aka "Belle", played by Billie Piper, a high-end London based call girl, who is essentially living a double life. I first got addicted to this show last yr while I was at my friends apartment in Long Beach. As my friends and I were flipping through channels, Billie Piper's face, reminiscent of a monkey had caught our eye. Soon enough her ape-like qualities were over-shadowed by her banging body and intriguing encounters with various clients.

Although our inner critic would like to judge Belle for being a whore, the viewer is too caught up with her charm and the next adventure she's going to get into. Belle whose real name is Hannah is actually a fairly normal British girl raised in a wholesome family who  are oblivious to her secret profession. Ben, played by Iddo Goldberg is Hannah's "best mate" and ex- boyfriend who is quite the cutie. The viewer can see the connection between and the two and hopes that one day, Hannah will give up her life as Belle and ultimately end up with Ben. But in the meantime, she will continue her raunchy adventures with high-paying fetish obsessed British men. Definitely a show you don't want to miss! The 3rd season just finished and I'm hoping a 4th is in the making.
